Pilgrim's Bounty has begun! What's cool about this holiday event is that you can get all but one of the achievements out of the way on the very first day.
Yesterday, I started working on it. It's pretty travel-intensive, requiring you to travel back and forth to each of your faction capitals a few times. Of course, I didn't plot the course in advance to be most efficient about this...so it took me a bit. I was also too stubborn to bring a mage friend along for the ride. A mage could be your best tool while doing these quests and the dailies. (If you manage to convince a mage to do this, be nice enough to buy him a stack of Runes of Teleportation, or at least tip him generously for his troubles.)
Within maybe an hour to an hour and a half, I had completed:
Food Fight!
Now We're Cookin'
Pilgrim's Paunch
Pilgrim's Progress
Sharing is Caring
Terokkar Turkey Time
Pilgrim's Peril
For Pilgrim's Peril, I have to say Undercity was the only one that required me to actually enter a horde city. They weren't making it easy, either. They had hunter's stationed near the tables with pets on aggressive, mages doing Arcane Explosion...No, they weren't killing you right off...but you can't take your seat if you're in combat. So maybe their pet raptor wasn't killing you, but it had you locked in combat so that you couldn't take a seat.
Fun. Luckily, I ended up finding a few Allies outside of the gates of Undercity that needed the achievement. We grouped up and kept running back until everyone had gotten it. Those of us that got it on the first run, we tried to distract the horde so our fellow allies could get their achieves. Once we all got to take our seat, we rezzed and got the hell outta there!
For you Hordies who haven't done it yet: Darnassus will, by far, be the tough one. I watched hordies come sit with us, unflagged, outside of Ironforge, Stormwind and The Exodar. But Darnassus, as I'm sure some of you already know, is a nightmare to get to. You have to get onto one of the boats in Auberdine (prompting the sentinels there to attack you).
Once you've done that, you'll need to survive the boat ride, make it past more Sentinels and then find your way to the far side of Darnassus, just outside of the gates leading to Dolanaar...Seems like hordies were running around the very outter edge of the city to avoid the huntress that patrols. I don't know. I did enjoy a little world PvP doing this.
But I digress...
Let's talk about the two that I didn't finish...
First, "The Turkinator"
It's totally and absolutely possible to do this on the first day if you're willing to tolerate a LOT of competition and frustration. All you have to do is find wild turkeys and slay them. You need to kill 40 within a "certain time frame".
Here's the nitty gritty: After you kill a few turkeys, you get a "turkey tracker" buff. No, it doesn't help you find them better...but it DOES allow you to see how many kills you have. As long as that buff stays up, your kills count toward the achievement. If you lose the buff, I think it makes you start over. I'm not sure. This is a brand new holiday achievement and I haven't had much time to do research. So far, I've found Elwynn Forest to have the most turkeys for the amount of area you'll have to cover to kill them all. They roam ALL over Elwynn. You can start on one of the far corners, with very little competition and work your way around. Unfortunately, on the first day of the holiday, this just wasn't going to happen for me. There were far too many people wandering about. So...I skipped this one.
And now..."Turkey Lurkey".
This one is not possible on the first day. In order to do this achievement, you need to obtain "Turkey Shooters". These are rewarded from the Pilgrim's Bounty Dailies available at the capital Cities. You need at least 8 turkey shooters. There are 5 dailies.
It's not possible the first day. I, personally, chose to get my Pilgrim's Robe and hat (and I got the shoes because I wasn't paying attention on my first turn-in...grrr), so that I could do the other achievements and get them out of the way. Now, all I have to do is my dailies for today and tomorrow, kill a bunch of turkeys, and shoot a bunch of rogues and I'll be done.
I am SO looking forward to using the Turkey Shooter on rogues. Rogues are the bane of my existence and the sole reason I rarely, if ever, pvp. Karma, dear rogues...Remember all of those times you left me stun-locked and unable to defend myself? Maybe you don't, but I sure do. I'm going to enjoy every single moment of this. Suffer well, rogues!
hey Des
ReplyDeleteyeah i did some of these yesterday.
the standard ones to make some food and sit at tables in each capital city.
funny but until yesterday i have never ever been a cook ! now i'm at about 350 ! lol
i started the turkey shooter one and now have done 4 rogues....need the ally ones now !
i tried the killing turkeys one but as you say it was a problem with them spread out and so many people there killing them, we are going to take a grp one evening and hope i helps.
i've not even contemplated going to the Ally cities yet for that achieve ! hmmmm...
and i think there are a couple of people who will come to SH with me for the killing Ikiss.
I <3 Blizz for keeping some of the tables OUTSIDE of the cities. I mean, Razor Hill counted for Orgrimmar, meaning I didn't even have to get anywhere NEAR Org to get that one out of the way.
ReplyDeleteI did get flagged in both Silvermoon and Thunder Bluff, but I managed to sneak off while other, more violent, Allies were keeping the hordies busy.
For Alliance Cities, the only one that could pose any issue would be Darnassus. There's a decent possibility you might be able to get in with very little resistance, depending on your server. <3 the Darnassus Portal in Rut'Theran! I giggle when I watch little hordies try to make their way through there. Great fun for us Allies.
Note to Alliance players: The hordies are sitting ducks when they arrive on the other side of that purple portal, friends. A big enough group of allies waiting at the Rut'Theran portal could be QUITE the surprise for them...just saying...just saying... 0=)
are the tables outside all the other Ally cities then Des ?
ReplyDeletei need to go try this one probably tomorrow evening.
oh and earlier this evening a grp of 5 of us went and blasted Ikiss for the achieve :)
For Ironforge, Stormwind, and Exodar...the tables are all right outside the gates to the city.
ReplyDeleteI suppose the same is true of Darnassus- that the tables are just outside the gates, but the tables are outside the gates that face the small village of Dolanaar...meaning that the tables are on the opposite side of the city from where the purple portal is.
It would be the only one that you'll likely have any trouble with as you'll inevitably be flagged upon entering that portal to get there.
With Ironforge, Exodar, and Stormwind, I saw horde folks there that were unflagged, so I assume it's easy to get to those without too much grief. The guards will still attack you, but if you don't attack back (make sure you don't have thorns on), you shouldn't get flagged and thus, allies won't bother much with you aside from trying to prevent you from taking a seat at the table.
Another thing to keep in mind: You can't sit at the table if you are in combat. Prowl will be your friend here =)
yeah prowl ftw ! :)
