Map of Stratholme

This is the run-through map that most of us use when we're hitting Stratholme on a farming run.

So there it is. My map. On my second run through Stratholme, I ended up getting the Key to the City (a drop from Magistrate Barthilas). If you need the key, you'll need to go through the main entrance of the instance and take a right when you get to the end of the first corridor. He can be found near the Service Gate Entrance.

If you enter through the Service Gate, Barthilas will start ranting about warning Baron Rivendare that you're intruding. If you want to kill him for fun after you've entered the service gate, you'll be able to find him to the right of the entrance to Slaughter square.

Now, this map is just how I run when I was farming the mount for my druid (and am now farming for my death knight). There are a million different ways to do it, but this is what worked out best for me. I, personally, find Nerub'Enkan to be the most annoying boss of them all, so I've always preferred to get him out of the way right off the bat.

I enter through the service gate and hang to the left. Even if you CAN stealth, it might be better just to skip it. All of the ghouls and most of the other mobs in there can detect stealth anyway and honestly...you're MORE apt to aggro them if you're trying to stealth near them than if you just prance by. At level 80, you shouldn't have much trouble at all weaving your way through the mobs without drawing attention to yourself. The gargoyles flying around can be fairly annoying, but be patient and you'll get by them without a problem.

Nerub'Enkan: At level 80, none of these bosses really pose a threat. I know caster friends that go in here to farm without even getting a scratch. The reason I kill this guy first is because I hate being snared. Inevitably, he webs you to the ground when he gets to low health and gets out of melee range. It's annoying...and that's why I kill him first. (This is the yellow path on the map). Make sure to kill the Acolytes inside of his building.

Looking at the map, you can see that there's a gate that will lead you to the next nearest Ziggurat - Maleki the Pallid. Well, two reasons I don't like to go that way. For one thing, there's a gate that drops and traps you in for a few seconds while you get bombarded with rats or cockroaches. Not a huge issue. They do no damage and can be easily AoE'd down, but being trapped in the gate slows you down. I'm not a fan of idle time when I'm farming anything. Also, beyond the gate are a bunch of caster type mobs that seem to aggro fairly easily and are rather close together. I prefer to backtrack a little here, taking the teal colored path back to Baroness Anastari (Ziggurat #2). There's nothing special about her. Kill her then kill the little Thuzadin Acolytes inside of her building and get ready to head down the fuchsia colored path to Maleki the Pallid.

There are some ghouls near the gate leading to Maleki that are kind of close together and have one of those Crypt Guards pathing back and forth nearby. You can easily avoid them, just move carefully and be mindful of the gargoyles flying through. Beyond the gate, there are some ghouls on both sides of the path, but if you center yourself you can easily wander between them without issue.

When you arrive at Maleki the Pallid, there are four mobs on the stairs before him. You can either take them out or skip them completely. I usually walk up the side of the stairs to skip them. Smack Maleki around, take out his acolytes and get ready for some Abomination fun!

(If you've entered through the service gate, you'll see Magistrate Barthilas to your right, just before you enter Slaughter Square.)

Because I always farm this in feral tank spec, I pop into bear form and grab all of the aboms in the room. I pull them right to the stairs of the Slaughterhouse and kill them there...

Here's why:

Ramstein the Gorger's appearance is triggered by the last of the aboms (or their sludge creatures) getting killed. The mechanic of the instance would normally have you fight Ramstein outside of a locked Slaughterhouse, then you would have to face a bunch of little "mindless" mobs and have to wait for the Black Guard Sentries to spawn and come out to meet you.

I pull Rammy old boy inside of the Slaughterhouse BEFORE the doors close. When he dies, the Black Guard Sentries spawn instantly and you can take them out right away, rather than having to wait for them. As soon as the last sentry goes down...It's just you...and Baron Rivendare.

Head down the little ramp to his room and pwn his face! Hopefully you can embarrass him enough that he'll just hand over the reins to his precious little pony without having to come back a bunch of times.

If you're a heavy DPS class and a careful runner, you can probably complete this within a matter of a few minutes. You can either hearth out or run back to the service gate. Be forewarned that all of those "mindless", one-shottable mobs you skipped by pulling Ramstein into the slaughterhouse will be there waiting for you. Kill them in Slaughter Square to avoid socially aggroing the entire instance and you're good to go! Also, for serious farmers...remember you can only do five instances in an hour. If you get pretty efficient at this, it's easy to get yourself locked out for awhile. Not a huge deal. It gives the Baron a little time to consider just giving you his horse so you'll leave him alone, right?

Good luck and happy farming!

One For The Road

I'm not Rick Rolling you, promise. But I got this today from a friend in an attempt to Rick Roll me...and I thought the flowchart was hilarious and wanted to share. Enjoy!

I LIKE TURTLES

The Sea Turtle - Turtles All The Way Down!

Let me just say that I had forgotten about this mount completely. Okay, well not completely. But I had forgotten to include it in my farming attempts. This mount is one that you get from fishing in the waters of Northrend. I had just about completely forgotten it when a friend of mine mentioned it and asked if I had gotten this one yet.

No, I haven't.

Yes, I intend to fish up this mount.

I just need to find the drive to go out and do some fishing. I mean, after I got the pet from my Bag of Fishing Treasures (Dalaran Fishing Dailies), I honestly stopped doing them. I probably would have the Sea Turtle if I had just kept doing the dailies...but I'm not a dailies person. I'm sure I've mentioned that before. I don't like doing the same quests over and over and over again...drives me batty.

Oh, and the Strand Crawler companion pet...makes a little skittering sound when he's walking around with you. It's cute.

Anyway, I'm going to add the Sea Turtle back into my farming list and hopefully will be able to post a successful story of getting her soon. If not, at least I'll have a BUNCH of fish feasts, right? Maybe make a little bit of gold with it....who knows? If I figure anything neat out, you know, tricks or tips, I'll definitely post them here. In the meanwhile, happy farming to the rest of you. I'll try to update soon with progress (and probably horror stories) of my mount farming runs.

Luck Be a Lady...(A Really NICE Lady!)

Well, things have calmed down a little IRL, so I've been able to play a bit more. Our guild is pretty much inactive lately. Stay tuned for an upcoming guild change...Sad, but true. I want to be raiding...but we're not and it makes me sad...but I digress. That's not why I'm here today.

No. I'm here today to explain why my most cherished Horde kitty friend hates me. Recently, I've had an incredibly lucky streak.

I'm one of those players that will go on random mount farming binges. Sunday afternoon I logged in for a little while. The first thing I did was tell my beloved Paper Towel (go read the archives for the explanation on his nickname) that Baron Rivendare was GOING to drop the reins to his Deathcharger today. Period. End of discussion. It was going to happen. I wasn't taking NO for an answer.

I ran through the instance twice. No mount drops. I was a little frustrated, but decided I'd take a quick break and log into an alt to take a break from staring at the scourgies. While I was on my alt, my husband asked if I wanted to run Vault of Archavon with him. I love that raid, so I switched over. I got the raid invite and figured I'd run Stratholme again to see if the mount would drop while I waited for the group to fill.

I got the 3 ziggurats down and made my way for the Slaughterhouse, totally expecting no mount to drop. Fought my way through to Baron Rivendare, pwnd him...and looted.

O.O I couldn't believe my eyes. My husband was sitting next to me, but I couldn't even say anything. I just looted it, hearthed and got my achievement... and onward ho!

Let me just say that I was incredibly lucky with this drop. INCREDIBLY lucky. I know a handful of people who religiously farm this instance and have run nearly 200 times and still have not seen this thing drop. I would guess that they improved the drop rate, except that my friends are still farming for this guy. Good luck to all of you who are trying for it. It's definitely a cool mount to have.

A funny story comes to mind, and this might help redirect some of the hatred I'm feeling from some friends who are currently trying to get this thing to drop. When I started farming this at 70, I had run the instance nearly 20 times and my Paper Towel asked what I was doing. When I explained that there was a mount in there that I was trying to get, he thought it might be fun to try for it himself. He got it on his 6th run. It took me 42 runs. So...=P

Monday, I was incredibly sick. I don't know where it came from but I had the nastiest cold I've had in a long, long time. I ended up staying home as I couldn't seem to get the symptoms under control before work time. It was still early and knowing the lockout on heroics reset at 11am, I figured I'd take a quick run through Heroic Sethekk Halls and summon good old Anzu to see what he had in store for me. Since it was before the reset for the day, I knew I'd get another chance to go back in and try again.

I didn't need to. I was sitting next to my husband who was on his

warlock doing some PvP and I honestly just stared at the screen for a few seconds before I tugged at his sleeve to make sure I was really seeing what I thought I was seeing.

Two rare mounts within 24 hours?

Really?

Well, my husband was pretty jealous and happy for me at the same time. I was super, super excited! I couldn't WAIT to get out of the instance and summon my Raven Lord to ride around. One of the strange things though...whenever I get a new mount, I tend to ride that one everywhere I go, at least until the novelty wears off and then I go back to my Winterspring Frostsaber, which is probably my favorite mount of all. But now I've got the Deathcharger AND Raven Lord...both within a day of each other...I really should pester a friend to make me a random mount macro for my land mounts. I have quite a few now. I think the Raven Lord is one of my absolute favorites now though. I mean, with all of the mount achievements, quite a few people farm mounts now. But I think I would have farmed this one anyway. I have always sort of admired this mount. It's unique. That's what I love about it.

At any rate, I'm working on trying to figure out how to solo Heroic Magister's Terrace right now. I can FINALLY down Vexallus solo now, but I struggle with Kael'Thas. I think my error might be opening up in bear when I should maybe be starting off in cat form. The key, I'm told, is to get him down to 50% within the first 60 seconds of the encounter. I'm not entirely sure I have the dps to do so, but I think I'll figure something out. I gave up on it Monday before I tried in Kitty. I'll keep you posted there.

Also, I took out Attumen the Huntsman again. No luck on his mount this week. I'll be back next week though. hehe! I'm going to try and figure out a way to get into Zul'Gurub and take out the Raptor and Tiger bosses. It should be pretty fun. I've watched some videos on it. They reset every 3 days, so I'll be farming ZG in between my Kara and MgT mount farm runs.

Since the guild is so inactive, I might take this opportunity to grind some rep, either with Netherwing or with Sha'tari Skyguard for those mounts. It's rare to see someone riding around on a Nether Ray. So that might be on my list of things to do. Plus, you get a non-combat pet from them. I think a baby Nether Ray would go along really well with my little Sporebat. hehe (If you're wondering, yes, I got exalted with Sporeggar to get the pet and tabard...lol). I'm really not a good "dailies" person, which is why I don't have any of the Argent Tournament mounts. I really have no desire to do dailies. It's sad, but it's so true. I hate dailies. I suppose it wouldn't kill me to just do the dailies...eh we'll see.

I was asked today if I'd be willing to make video guides for mount farming...um, I suppose I could, however I'm not sure they'd even be worth watching. That...and there are SO many guides out there for mount farming. I can post videos of really good guides for mount runs if you want, but by request only. Alright, I should get back to real life now.

Until next time...

Ardent Defenders?

Well, I started working on my Elder title last night. I had quite a few of the little random achievements done from last year, so all I'm really working on this year is:

  • Elders of Eastern Kingdoms
  • Elders of Kalimdor
  • Elders of The Horde
  • Elders of the Dungeons
  • Elders of Northrend
  • Frenzied Firecracker
  • Rocket's Red Glare
That's really all I have to deal with this year. Admittedly, I've been sort of slacking lately so I didn't start it until last night. So far I've completed Elders of the Horde and Elders of Eastern Kingdoms. I'll be knocking out the rest of Kalimdor, Dungeons and Northrend either tonight or tomorrow.

There's nothing difficult about this meta, by the way. It's just a LOT of traveling around and looking for the elders. It's incredibly time consuming. That's really the only difficult part.

Elders of the Horde was so incredibly easy...it was disappointing. Being a druid, I can prowl into the cities and get to the elder without an issue. Interacting with the elder to get credit for it breaks stealth, making me an easy target for the horde players. Right?

The first city I stealthed into was Orgrimmar. I prowled all the way through to the elder without any issue. When I got to the elder, of course my stealth broke. I looked up to see three level 80 horde players: A shaman, a warlock and a warrior. I assumed I was going to get destroyed, but they just stood there looking at me. I teleported to Moonglade and that was that.

It's an understatement to say that I was shocked that I wasn't obliterated right there on the spot...

The next Horde city on my list was Thunder Bluff. It's not a very popular city it seems, so I was met with zero resistance there. The only Horde player I saw in Thunder Bluff was a level 9 Tauren Druid. I didn't even prowl through Thunder Bluff. I rode my mount up, let the guards beat on me while I got my coin, then ran back to the Northernmost Lift near Elder Rise. I didn't expect any resistance in Thunder Bluff though, honestly. I've now done two "For the Alliance" runs, and have yet to meet any resistance in Thunder Bluff.

Based on previous experiences in Undercity, I thought for sure I'd end up having trouble there. Sure enough, as I zone in I notice a level 80 Orc Warrior. I was stealthed, so he didn't notice me, but he ran into the room where the elder was. When I prowled in there, I noticed a level 80 Blood Elf Death Knight. I guessed that, between the two of them, I'd be dead within seconds of breaking stealth.

That was definitely not the case. They completely ignored my presence there. Because it was my last Horde City, I got the [Elders of the Horde] achievement, which I know full well showed up on their chat screen. But the Death Knight and Warrior just stood there and allowed me to teleport out of Undercity.

It almost made me feel bad for killing the Horde players that I found in our Alliance cities (or at least assisting other players in killing them, be it through healing or whatever). What happened to all of the ardent Horde defenders? I got more grief from the guards in these cities than I did from the actual players. So disappointing...

Patience is a Virtue

Last night just happened to be one of the more entertaining nights for, well, most of us. Nothing extra special or super crazy happened really. I mean, there just wasn't much in-game craziness going on.

However...

Blizzard did SOMETHING to the servers yesterday that unleashed hell on the general population of WoW addicts. My main server was down until about 7pm, which was fine because it made me log into another server and work on my new death knight there. (Yes folks, I've decided to try my hand at a Blood Elf Death Knight...)

At any rate, one thing I noticed on my alt server was that it was extremely laggy and it was taking a crazy amount of time for NPC interactions - You know, turning in quests and the like. I assumed it was a server thing, so when my main server came back up, I figured I'd give that a shot.

Well, everything seemed pretty good on my main server until we tried to run the Holiday Boss fight (The Apothecaries, if you're not sure what I'm referring to) in Shadowfang Keep. Let me just tell you that the load screen lag and quest turn in lag was so horrendous that it started to just get funny for most of us. I formed a group with mostly guildies, then we headed on up to the instance.

We seemed to get into the instance without too much issue. The load screen took a little bit longer than maybe it should have, but nothing too far out of the ordinary. We all went in and picked up our daily quest and it started...It took no less than 60 seconds to pick up the quest- and by that I mean, talk to the NPC, click the quest, click Accept. Opening the satchel he gives you with the subpoena in it took another 60-90 seconds. That's crazy considering most quest related interactions are pretty much instant...

We went through all of our summons and decided we'd switch in our alts real quick. "Real quick" hahahaha mmk...well..."Real quick" just was NOT in the cards last night. When I zoned out of the instance on my druid, I was stuck on the load screen for about 8 minutes. Logging out took another 2 minutes. Obviously there's the 20 seconds you HAVE to wait if you're not logging out in a city or an inn...plus another minute and a half worth of being stuck in a screen where you can't interact and let people know what's going on via chat or anything...pure epic fun!

I logged in with my death knight to find that I was stuck on the load screen for nearly 10 minutes. I texted one of my friends that was in the group to let him know I was trying to get on, but stuck. We finally managed to get the group together and after my Death Knight took her turn and activated the boss fight and collected loot...I was asked to go back to my druid to heal the final 4 attempts. Sure enough...another 25-30 minutes worth of load screen hell between switching toons and trying to get into the instance...luckily the group we were with was pretty patient about it. I mean we were all experiencing the same hyper lag issues. It was insane.

It makes one wonder though...what exactly did Blizz do to the servers to cause such ridiculously painful lag issues? Servers were fine the night prior, and then last night...eesh...most of us just gave up on the whole thing and logged out for the night. I would have been annoyed I think, but the lag was SO bad that it just became really, really funny.

The hunter we pugged in had been asked to come out and help summon. He ran to the instance door only to find that he was "stuck" inside. Well, the person we were going to try to summon ended up arriving at the instance fairly quickly. We were JUST about to start the fight when we realized the pug hunter was missing...turns out that he wasn't "stuck" inside like he had thought and that his attempt to leave the instance to help summon was just ... oh...let's call it "delayed" a little bit. The poor guy had to go through the load screen hell to try and get back in. It was just bad to the point of being really funny last night. Yay lag! I don't know...I was having fun. I know a few friends were pretty annoyed with the whole thing...but I mean...it was pretty funny. *shrug*

Did anyone else have to battle the lag last night? Got any stories to tell? I'd love to hear them!

Peace, friends!

The Long Silence...

Well, I figured I should explain my recent absence from LBT...

Suffice to say that real life has been pretty heavy lately. I was sick a LOT in January, and unfortunately got really behind at work. I'm STILL playing catchup, and on top of that a co-worker of mine has had some pretty wild stuff going on and I've been trying to help him out a little bit as well. I'm not getting as far as I wish I could...both when it comes to my workload and trying to help him out. I'm hoping that this week will be the week where I can really just plow through some stuff and get things accomplished.

Also, my darling husband and WoW friend has just started going back to college and wanting to work more on music together. Since he's wanting to work more on our music and stuff, I've been spending more time working on that...and thus...less time playing WoW. My poor guildies thought I had fallen off the face of the earth last week. I had been only logging in for a dungeon or two and then logging back out to get some music time in.

WoW has taken a back seat to other priorities for my husband, and I think...indirectly...it's caused me to lose a little interest in it. I mean...it isn't that I don't enjoy the game. I absolutely do.

Here, I'll tell you a story that might help explain this a little...

For the longest time, my husband played WoW- and I was his "wife aggro". I hated that he'd get tied up in dungeons and not be able to just bail on the group to go do whatever it was we had planned for the day. I hated that I had to wait for him to "finish this one last quest..."

I think that he introduced me to the game in order to end the Wife-Aggro he had been suffering. He installed the game and bought me a subscription...and thus the story began...

Since he worked nights, and I was home alone just about EVERY night, I ended up getting really into the game. One of my best friends used to group with me and we'd quest together at night and sort of role play a little and just talk...you know...we kept each other company.

Eventually my best friend had to take some time off and I ended up making the grind to 80 with my husband. After we hit 80, we started doing a LOT of stuff together...heroics, raiding...even PvP. It was really just awesome to have my husband there with me. Now that he's busy doing other things, it's just not really the same I guess. It's strange to all of you, I'm sure...but it was something we shared together and without him around...eh...it's just hard to get into it.

That's why LBT has been silent lately. I haven't done much and so haven't had much to talk about really. We tried ICC10 as a guild and...well...that's another story for another post...lemme tell ya...lol

Anyway, I miss LBT and hopefully soon I'll be able to devote more time to it. I've had a lot of fun writing about my experiences and sharing with you, so I hope that I can continue to do so. I'm hoping to have some more posts up soon, but I have to get the rest of the world back under control first :)

Take care!
