Zul'Aman: Round #2 - Nalorakk (Bear Avatar)

Well it has taken me a little while to get the rest of the fights posted here.  I apologize.  RL has been...wow.

Anyway, no blah blah today.  It's all  business.

hehe

Okay, so in the last post, I talked about The Eagle Avatar (who has subsequently been nerfed it seems - and I can't express to you how thankful I am for that as a healer!), so in this post, we'll talk about Nalorakk.

This is typically your second encounter in Zul'Aman.  I'm not 100% sure why...it just works out that way I guess.  It seems most efficient to hit Eagle, Bear, Dragonhawk, then Lynx.  But that's for another post.  Once I get the main bosses down here I'm going to talk about the timed run and the warbear mount.

So what do you need to know about good ole Nalorakk?

First, this fight consists of two phases.  That's it.  Just two.  In my honest opinion, this fight is probably one of the easiest in here, hands down.

Phase one is his "normal form" phase.  He'll be slapping your tank around in troll form.  There are only really two things you need to know about this phase.

The first ability he uses in "Normal Phase" is called Brutal Strike.  This melee attack hammers your tank for roughly 80k damage.  It's not hard to heal through it and there's very little AoE damage in this phase to worry about.

I take that back.  The only "AoE" damage you'll have to worry about is Nalorakk's second ability:  Surge.  Nalorakk will charge the party member FARTHEST from him, inflicting roughly 35k damage to that person.  This leaves behind a debuff increasing the physical damage against the debuffed player by 500%.  That means you don't want to take 2 surges or you'll be dead.  It's that simple.

The easiest way to handle this is to have 3 party members take turns eating surges, since he does it 3 times before he transitions into phase 2.  Almost every group I've been involved in has used 3 different soakers for this.  All you need to do is stand further from him than everyone else.  After he surges you, move in closer than the other two ranged.  Then the other two designated "soakers" do the same.  Once he's done this 3 times, he'll shift into phase 2.

Phase two is Bear phase!  YAY!!!!!

Okay it's not really that exciting.  The biggest healer concern in this phase would be the silence and the Lacerating Slash, which inflicts about 180k damage over 24 seconds.  It's really not that hard to heal through, but you'll want to keep an eye on your tank's health.  The silence ability he uses is called Deafening Roar.  It only silences you for two seconds and cannot be dispelled.  To the best of my knowledge, it has unlimited range so there's no "safe place" to stand.  It's only 2 seconds though.  It really shouldn't cause any problems if you keep your tank close to topped off.

Now, I could be wrong here but I seem to remember him doing a thrash in bear form that hit all party members on my last run through there.  I don't see it noted on any of the boss guides though.  If that's the case, just know that the thrash inflicts a moderate amount of damage on everyone, but it's not going to cause the healer too much agony.  If I can do it, you can do it.

Overall, this boss is incredibly easy compared to some other Cataclysm bosses.  As long as your team knows what's up, this is basically free epics.

That's the basic idea of Nalorakk - Bear Avatar.  Pretty simple.  Honestly, the trash leading up to him is FAR more aggravating than he is by himself.  I'll discuss trash in an entirely different post.  The trash in this instance is frustrating enough to earn itself a post!

Off to work on the next writeup.  Hopefully I can get them all posted today.
