At long last...my beloved warlock has dinged level 80! I managed to hit 80 Friday evening while running a random dungeon with my husband's death knight tank. Who knew that level 80 would be so much fun on a warlock? I sure didn't. But she's a beast in dungeons...
I spent the weekend in heroics grinding badges and getting her geared. So far, I've managed to get 4 out of 5 tier9 pieces - Chest, Legs, Gloves, and shoulders. She's looking really cool right now, if I don't say so myself. Every slot on her has an epic quality piece of gear with the exception of her two trinkets, one ring and her wand...and I've only been level 80 for two full days. It's been a grind, but it's been fun!
Thanks to my husband and a friend, I managed to see the first few fights in Trial of the Crusader (both 10 man and 25 man) - but neither group could get past Faction Champions. I ended up getting a necklace from Jaraxxus from one of the runs. I also managed to get into a Vault of Archavon 25 man - again, thanks to my husband.
Even with the few blues she still has, she was rocking 5.2k dps on the VoA bosses. Now, that's fully raid buffed and flasked with fish feast...but still. I can only imagine how much better her dps is going to get once we're hit capped and in full purples.
Oh god it makes me giddy!
While I'd never want to give up my druid as my main, I do wonder why I didn't level her as my second level 80. She's so much fun!
At any rate, back to work I guess. Just wanted to post a quick update. Thanks for reading!
*squeals with glee as she bounces back to work*
With great love and giddiness,
Des - Level 80 Queen of Demons!
Grtz Des !
ReplyDeletei've been remiss in looking here or the Grove (which seems totally dead now) for a week or 2.
i know little about locks. although a guildie got one to 80 a few weeks back and has fairly good gear (badge) now but only seems to do 3.5k max in heroics....whilst another well geared lock i run with struggles to get to that.
so not sure if they need the rite rotation or spec to get good dps ?
on another related note by mage finally dinged 80 13 days ago now !!! he's got a few badge items but the first stuff i got him were some very nice crafted 245 and 264 gear. :)
i think i spent about 12k in the first 48 hrs on him !
no i just gotta knuckle down and get him frist badges. fun playing the mage....i've had him for 5 yrs but he spent well over 2 yrs being a bank alt ;)
on a good day he does 3.5 to 3.7k dps in heroics. in some on a worse day more like 2.5k. he's sitll frost atm and i am going to try his new arcane spec soon. he is low on sp at around 2100 and crit at 21%. but he's getting there.

Grats Khel! If you tell me more I can put up a post in honor of your mage! (I might post one anyway hehe)
ReplyDeleteI agree that the grove has been silent...tumbleweed keeps bouncing on through there lately...
As far as warlocks - Heroic DPS will be lower than a raid boss fight...The quicker the fight, the lower your dps will be - doesn't seem to make as much sense as it should but I find it to be absolutely true.
Here's my armory link:

Her gear right now is sort of a hodge podge of whatever I can get my hands on. She's ~2k spellpower and 28% crit right now (when Fel Armor+Firestone are active).
Rotation is key for warlocks, along with keeping your DoTs active. I find that if I miss a step in my rotation or hit any lag my dps drops considerably. I'm going to change my affliction spec to something more PvP friendly eventually - since I don't use it in dungeons. (Although, I intend to give it a try once she's in all purples...just to see if I can get some decent BOOM out of it hehe)
Also- it seems that the jury is still out on Haste Vs Crit for caster dps. I know a bunch of locks and mages that stack haste like you can't even imagine with the theory - hitting faster will give you as much or more dps than hitting hard based on crit %. Others pile on the crit and that works for them - theory: Hitting Harder more often is better than hitting faster. I think it's a playstyle choice, personally, but I prefer crit for now - especially with DoTs critting...YUM!
My husband's mage - for example - has a lot of haste and with his Arcane spec does awesome dps! His mage is just an alt that he rarely gets to raid with - so it's a work in progress - but here's his armory link:

I rarely see frost mages in dungeons, but I'd guess that 3.5+ is really good! You're on your way =)
Oh - and I'm aware that I'm not hit capped just yet. That's a work in progress. Once I have a set of gear that doesn't get frequently updated, I'm going to get to hit cap (even if it kills me). I figure, 3 days into 80 and having that many purples...I'm on the right track lol
ReplyDeleteindeed. i'll check out your husband mage on the armoury and i really need to check arcane spec.
ReplyDeletei think i'll for with haste on the mage. but i know the lock in my guild favours crit although i am not sure of his spec.
however his gs is 5000+ !

Crit seems to be the favored stat for warlocks - and it seems to be this way regardless of build. DoTs that crit are beautiful things!
ReplyDeleteFor mages...I'm probably the worst to ask. It truly seems split down the middle. Some prefer haste, others crit and everyone's got their reasons. There are solid arguments on both sides, so I really think it all comes down to playstyle and what you like to do. I wish I could help more. Mages are still mysterious to me though...lol.
