Patience is a Virtue

Last night just happened to be one of the more entertaining nights for, well, most of us. Nothing extra special or super crazy happened really. I mean, there just wasn't much in-game craziness going on.

However...

Blizzard did SOMETHING to the servers yesterday that unleashed hell on the general population of WoW addicts. My main server was down until about 7pm, which was fine because it made me log into another server and work on my new death knight there. (Yes folks, I've decided to try my hand at a Blood Elf Death Knight...)

At any rate, one thing I noticed on my alt server was that it was extremely laggy and it was taking a crazy amount of time for NPC interactions - You know, turning in quests and the like. I assumed it was a server thing, so when my main server came back up, I figured I'd give that a shot.

Well, everything seemed pretty good on my main server until we tried to run the Holiday Boss fight (The Apothecaries, if you're not sure what I'm referring to) in Shadowfang Keep. Let me just tell you that the load screen lag and quest turn in lag was so horrendous that it started to just get funny for most of us. I formed a group with mostly guildies, then we headed on up to the instance.

We seemed to get into the instance without too much issue. The load screen took a little bit longer than maybe it should have, but nothing too far out of the ordinary. We all went in and picked up our daily quest and it started...It took no less than 60 seconds to pick up the quest- and by that I mean, talk to the NPC, click the quest, click Accept. Opening the satchel he gives you with the subpoena in it took another 60-90 seconds. That's crazy considering most quest related interactions are pretty much instant...

We went through all of our summons and decided we'd switch in our alts real quick. "Real quick" hahahaha mmk...well..."Real quick" just was NOT in the cards last night. When I zoned out of the instance on my druid, I was stuck on the load screen for about 8 minutes. Logging out took another 2 minutes. Obviously there's the 20 seconds you HAVE to wait if you're not logging out in a city or an inn...plus another minute and a half worth of being stuck in a screen where you can't interact and let people know what's going on via chat or anything...pure epic fun!

I logged in with my death knight to find that I was stuck on the load screen for nearly 10 minutes. I texted one of my friends that was in the group to let him know I was trying to get on, but stuck. We finally managed to get the group together and after my Death Knight took her turn and activated the boss fight and collected loot...I was asked to go back to my druid to heal the final 4 attempts. Sure enough...another 25-30 minutes worth of load screen hell between switching toons and trying to get into the instance...luckily the group we were with was pretty patient about it. I mean we were all experiencing the same hyper lag issues. It was insane.

It makes one wonder though...what exactly did Blizz do to the servers to cause such ridiculously painful lag issues? Servers were fine the night prior, and then last night...eesh...most of us just gave up on the whole thing and logged out for the night. I would have been annoyed I think, but the lag was SO bad that it just became really, really funny.

The hunter we pugged in had been asked to come out and help summon. He ran to the instance door only to find that he was "stuck" inside. Well, the person we were going to try to summon ended up arriving at the instance fairly quickly. We were JUST about to start the fight when we realized the pug hunter was missing...turns out that he wasn't "stuck" inside like he had thought and that his attempt to leave the instance to help summon was just ... oh...let's call it "delayed" a little bit. The poor guy had to go through the load screen hell to try and get back in. It was just bad to the point of being really funny last night. Yay lag! I don't know...I was having fun. I know a few friends were pretty annoyed with the whole thing...but I mean...it was pretty funny. *shrug*

Did anyone else have to battle the lag last night? Got any stories to tell? I'd love to hear them!

Peace, friends!
