Yes. I did. Saturday afternoon, while my husband and daughter were taking a nap I decided to grind my way to exalted with Cenarion Expedition. Rather than going out to Northrend and compete for Lackey Ears, I decided I'd just use Steamvault for rep.
Steamvault, at least for me, was the most efficient way to grind out the rep. First of all, there's no competition for kills. Regular Steamvault is almost hilariously easy to solo as a bear. Actually, heroic Steamvault was fairly easy to solo as well. The only boss that gave me any trouble at all was Thespia. I'm thinking it's because she uses less physical attacks and more magic...but I digress.
At any rate, the rep gains were:
Regular:
Non-Elite Trash: 2 CE rep per kill
Elite Trash (Naga, Tidal Surgers, Wrekt Slaves): 12 CE Rep per kill
Bog Overlord: 24 CE rep per kill
Bosses (Hydromancer Thespia, Mekgineer Steamrigger, Warlord Kalithresh): 120 Rep
On Heroic:
Non-Elite trash: 5 rep
Elite Trash: 15 Rep
Bog Overlords: 30 Rep
Bosses: 130 Rep
Well, I think that's what the rep gains were. After about the 15th time running it, my mind started to go numb and I didn't think about keeping track of rep gains until after I had finished. I will re-run them both and edit the post with the correct rep numbers.
At any rate, I did earn a few achievements doing this:
I figured I'd snag my Cenarion War Hippogryph as a reward for FINALLY grinding the rep with them. The Cenarion Hippogryph is really, really cool, by the way. If you don't have one, you should get one :) I'll post more screenies when I get a chance. For now, it's back to the real world :(
nice one Des ! i got CE Exalted yonks and yonks ago cos of having to have Earthwarden aws a bear tanking weapon.
ReplyDeleteplus the lovely hippo which at the time almost no one else had cos of the cost, 1600g at exalted.
dont think i got the other rep yet though ? hmm not even sure where it comes from !
K
Hey K,
ReplyDeleteThe other rep comes from killing Twilight Cultists in Silithus, through a few quests offered in Cenarion Hold (Silithus), and by turning in Encrypted Twilight Texts.
The Texts themselves "can" be purchased on the Auction House, but tend to be pretty pricey. It's honestly easier just to go kill-grind the rep for a few hours and collect the texts. Taking a friend (Mar, in my case) made it a little more tolerable.
If you have a friend that can make even the most mundane tasks entertaining, I'd recommend taking that person. It gets mind-numbingly boring sometimes for the Cenarion Circle grind.
I really never bothered with anything in BC. I ended up taking a 2-3 month afk after hitting 70. By the time I returned, Wrath was out and I was on my way to 80 =) I won't lie. I thought about purchasing the Earthwarden just because I'm a bear and it was SUCH a coveted item back then...you know...just to have it for novelty's sake...but 200+ gold just didn't seem worth it. lol
lol Des, Earthwarden was the must have, if you did not have it back then you was laughed at !
ReplyDeletethe number of times i ran Steam Vaults and Slave Pens etc !
I will look into doing the Sithilus grind and see how much the txts go for on the AH, cheers.
K
If I was on your server, Khel, I'd come grind it out with you =) It was a lot more fun with a friend there. Mar and I joked with one another about how many of the Cultist Cowls I looted. At one point I had 12 of them in my inventory lol.
ReplyDeleteThat's another thing you can do for rep for the Cenarion Circle grind. As you're killing the cultists, they sometimes drop a robe, a mantle, or a cowl. If you put all 3 items on and find a Lesser Windstone (or any of the "lesser" stones), you can summon a lvl 60 elemental that you can kill. It will drop an Abyssal Crest. I believe you turn in 3 of them for 150 rep. It might be more on the first turn-in, but I never turned any in. I collected kill rep and texts. I traded all of my abyssal crests to Mar so that he could finish his grind as well.
Also, the cultists DO give rep all the way through revered to exalted. I had read someplace that they stopped yielding rep at Honored, but that's most assuredly not the case =)
If you're planning on taking this on, good luck and happy grinding to you =D The best advice I got as I began the grind was: If you can, just do it all in one go. As in, don't leave the area until you're completely done with the grind. True story. You won't EVER want to see Silithus again after this grind lol
ok Des thanks. will take a look maybe later at starting this or tomorrow when i have more time.
ReplyDeleteahha i remember killing them big mobs for the purple abyssal things ? they gave something good iirc cos people always trying to get the stuff to summon one ?
i need see how much rep i got with them !
K
hmm i only have 450/12000 ! so a long grind !
ReplyDeleteIt really wasn't that bad, Khel. On the previous post, I listed my starting rep with them. It was 5100/6000 Friendly. The first night I got to 1030/12000. Each kill should yield about 10 Cenarion Circle Rep I believe.
ReplyDeleteSo what I did was grind kill rep until I had enough Twilight Texts to just finish it off. By the end of our rep grind- Mar and I had gotten about 250 texts between the two of us. It went a lot quicker than I thought it was going to. I promise it's not that bad. But, I will say that I now know why so few people go after the title lol
yeah i am killing them now.
ReplyDeletejust done some quest for signed orders and we usmmons a huge elite hive mob whch i remember from yrs ago.
as i posted on grove...need to remind myself or have you tell me about the assignments quest - any differences to choose which one ?
also did u go around summoning the abyssal lords etc and using the cowl/mantle etc ?
hmm maybe i should be reading your below blog to ! lol
ok time to go out again with Marshall back later :)
ty Des for any help :) i got 500 rep killing stuff....
Starfall ftw !
K
Hey Khel =)
ReplyDeleteI skipped the Tactical, Logistics, and Combat Assignments. Logistics requires you to provide items that, at least on my server, were hard to come by or a little expensive. The others just require you to kill mobs, I believe. I believe that turning in just one of these quests will reward you with 150 Cenarion Circle Rep, plus a Follow Up assignment and a badge. If you turn in 3 badges, it should reward you with 1000 Cenarion Circle Rep. Hmm...
I think it boils down to personal preference and what works best for you. For me, the kill grind wasn't that bad and the drop rate on the texts was decent.
What I did was this...
-Mostly killed cultists for rep
-collected the encrypted twilight texts
-whenever I had a full set of Twilight gear, I summoned the elemental from one of the "Lesser" stones and held onto the Abyssal Crest he dropped.
That's really it. I had kept track of how many texts I picked up, and as soon as I figured I had enough to turn in to get all the way to exalted, we stopped and did the turn-ins.
For me, I found myself more focused when I wasn't thinking about doing the quests. If you can rock out the Assignments quickly, that's not a bad way to snag rep though. The Logistics quest itself just seems a little inefficient. It removes you from the zone and sends you on a scavenger hunt...for 150 rep and a badge. Yes, the badge can be combined with the two other badge types to be turned in for 1k rep...but...anything that removes you from the zone to find "stuff" seems to kill the rep vs time investment efficiency...thing...(I haven't had enough coffee today. I think it's starting to show.)
That being said- If you're finding yourself having to deal with a lot of competition down there for kills, the Assignments might be a much more efficient way to earn rep. Ok so it depends on personal preference AND circumstance to some degree...
If you don't mind the grind, then that might be the better way to just power through it. If you find that the grind makes you feel like your mind is going to melt and leak out of your ears, then working through the quests might be a better way to go. One of the folks I met while grinding out the rep down there was alternating back and forth between kill-grinding and doing the Assignments. It seemed to work pretty well for him. I should follow up and see if he ever finished his grind...(If I could just remember how to spell his name...)
Unfortunately, I don't have much insight on the quests themselves...I never really took the time to do it. (I tend to avoid questing whenever possible, since I'm currently working on alts...bleh)
BTW:
There are 3 camps of Twilight Cultists, btw. So if you're finding that you have some competition in your current camp, there are two others to try =) That was the one thing I didn't find out about until after I'd begged people to group with me so that I could at least earn the rep while they killed stuff.
And the award for longest follow-up comment EVER goes to...
ReplyDeletelol
cheers Des.
ReplyDeletei will look at the killing quest which is easy with aoe i suspect.
and yeah i done the whole of that zone yrs back so got all the twilight areas listed.
used to grind here a lot for the essence of airs to !!
how do u use the twilight mantle and cowl ? do u actually have to wear them ? and thus lose all your nice normal items to do summat with them ?
why did u hold onto the texts and work out when to hand em in and not just hand them in as you got em ?>
cheers
K
For the Twilight Mantle, Cowl, and Robes: you have to put all three items on and click on the lesser stones to summon the elemental. Summoning the elemental should "use" the item and remove it from your inventory or character.
ReplyDeleteInitially, I held onto the texts because I was under the impression that once I hit revered I'd stop getting rep from kills. Even after learning that I still got rep after becoming revered, I held onto the texts mainly because I was trying to streamline the process as much as I could. I figured it would be easier to just do all text turn-ins in one trip at the very end, rather than pausing to turn them in every time I got a stack or two. It was actually sort of cool to turn in as many texts as I did and just watch my rep bar steadily climb all the way through exalted =) Made me a happy cub!
Grats! I did the same thing not too long ago - went back and finished with CE rep, then went and killed hundreds of Cultists in Silithus for the CC rep. Then turned around and used the money I made to buy the hippogryph.
ReplyDeleteI just wish it could act as a ground mount in the Vanilla WoW zones, then I'd use it all the time.
Agreed! The Cenarion War Hippogryph is my absolute favorite mount, hands down! The lack of a ground animation makes it unique, but I think I'd be ok with giving that up to be able to ride it in old world =)
ReplyDeletehmm wot u do with the abyssal crests ? i got 3 and turned them into the quest person in Cen Hold and got a bag of spoils and 50 rep ?
ReplyDeleteseems a bit of a waste of time !?
According to WoWhead.com, turning in 3 Abyssal Crests should be worth 150 rep. Unfortunately, I didn't do any of these turn ins. The rep gained from the kills and the texts seemed to be the most efficient way of doing this.
ReplyDeleteEspecially if you can get your hands/paws/feathers/what have you on one or both of the Twilight Prophets that path through...
Here's a link that discusses the Prophets.
I never made it a point to seek them out, but I did find one of them and she dropped 9 texts for me. That makes killing her worth almost 500 rep alone =) I can talk to Mar next time he's on and see how much rep he got from the Abyssal Crests. I would say that if they're only giving 50 rep, it's not worth it. You can get 50 rep from just five kills AND have the chance that the mobs will drop the texts, which ultimately seems most efficient for this grind.
where do u get the purple abyssal crests or crystals from Des do you know ?
ReplyDeleteFirst, let me post links to Abyssal Scepters and also Abyssal Signets.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you need an additional piece of "Twilight Gear" to summon the mini-bosses that drop the Abyssal Signets. The Twilight Cultist Medallion of Station, which appears to be a reward from turning in 3 Abyssal Crests plus a large brilliant shard(?). It looks like a quest line that begins with Aurel Goldleaf, in Cenarion Hold.
Beyond that, I'm not entirely sure. That's just the gist I get from reading what they have on WoWhead. (I'm addicted to WoWhead, if you haven't yet noticed lol!)
This page describes how to get the Abyssal Scepter under the Comments section. Happy Rep Grinding =)
thanks a lot Des :) /hugs
ReplyDeletei will grab a shard and go get a medallion :)
i rememeber we did summon some big boss blokey when people had the epic abyss crystal.
and they used to sell on the AH for a lot of money !
DONE it !
ReplyDeleteGuardian of Cenarius !

K
Congratulations fellow Guardian!
ReplyDeleteI was really surprised at how quickly the grind for Cenarion Circle went as well. Again, congrats on sticking it out! Enjoy your sparkly new title, sir! =D
